ANF seizes drugs worth Rs 201m, arrests 24 traffickers

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) recovered Rs 201.5 million worth of drugs, including 129.64kg hashish, 1.541kg heroin, 80kg opium and 1.100kg ICE in 18 different operations and apprehended 24 drug smugglers besides confiscating eight vehicles.

The operation was conducted in sequel to special directive of the ANF director general, under a countrywide campaign against drugs traffickers, said a news release issued Monday.

The operations were conducted at Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mashkel Balochistan, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Wazirabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khushab, Jehlum, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Burhan, Attock, Peshawar and Gilgit.

The ANF Balochistan seized two vehicles, recovering 80kg opium concealed in cavities of one of them. Both drivers of the vehicles arrested and identified as Muhammad Hussain and Muhammad Hashim and resident of Mashkhel. The said narcotics were being transported from Girdi Jungle.

The ANF Rawalpindi, in collaboration with intelligence unit, intercepted a truck E-8213 on motorway near Burhan and recovered 66kg hashish from the secret cavities of the truck.

In another operation, the ANF Rawalpindi airport team in collaboration with ASF apprehended a person namely Subhan Allah, resident of Sawabi, and was scheduled to fly from Islamabad to Jaddah by flight No PK-741. The team recovered 870 grams ICE from him.

The ANF Rawalpindi arrested a drug carrier near Chungi No 26, GT Road and recovered 5kg hashish from him. In forth operation, the ANF Rawalpindi arrested a person and recovered 3kg hashish from a taxi near Burma bus stop.

In 5th operation, the ANF Rawalpindi arrested a local drug peddler near Rangers check post and recovered 1.040kg hashish, near Ghizer Road, Gilgit. In another raid, the ANF Rawalpindi road check team recovered 3.600kg hashish from a local drug peddler, who was arrested near Umania Restaurant, GT Road Hattian, Attock.

In seventh operation, the ANF Rawalpindi arrested two drug suppliers with 610 gram heroin near Sohawa bus stop, GT Road, Jehlum. In addition, the ANF recovered 1kg hashish and arrested Sajid Ali, resident of Islamabad at I-10/4 Sector.

The ANF Lahore road check team, while acting on a tipoff, seized a Toyota Vitz Car and a motorcycle near Sheikhupura toll plaza and recovered 25.2kg hashish during the operation. Three persons were involved in drug smuggling were arrested. Two amongst them namely Arif Ullah, Zeeshan Ahmed (brothers) were resident of Nowshera, while Muhammad Bashir resident was from Shikhupura.

In another operation, ANF Lahore after intercepting a local passenger vehicle on Wazirabad Road, arrested two persons namely Muhammad Yousaf and Ejaz Hussain, resident of Khushab, and recovered 500 grams hashish from their possession.

In ANF Lahore’s third operation, the team intercepted a parcel near DHL Office Sialkot and arrested M Sajjad Ali Shah, resident of Sawabi, and recovered 931 gram heroin, tactfully concealed in 19 surgical items (49 grams each).

In addition, the ANF Lahore intercepted a Cultus car in Mandi Bahaudin and apprehended three persons namely Javed Shahhzad, Sardar Iqbal and Fawad Ahmad and recovered six kg hashish and seized the car.

The ANF Peshawar road check team intercepted a Suzuki Mehran car near Frontier Chemical CNG, industrial Estate Road. Search of the car led to seizure of 4.8kg hashish, which was concealed in secret cavities of the car. A person on board, namely Ayub Khan, resident of Khyber Agency, was arrested on the spot.

In another operation, the ANF Peshawar airport team arrested an accused namely Naqeem Khan, resident of Hangu, with 230gram ICE, which was concealed in his trolley bag. The accused was travelling by Arabia Airline from Peshawar to Sharjah.

The ANF Karachi airport team detained a passenger namely Muhammad Safdar, resident of Multan at Jinnah International Airport Karachi. The passenger later confessed to having heroin-filled capsules in his belly. The accused intended to fly for Colombo by Flight No UL-184.

Further, the ANF Karachi raided at Miani Forest Nursery, National Highway, Hyderabad and arrested a drug supplier Faqir Muhammad, resident of Sanghar and seized 6kg hashish.

Yet in another operation, the ANF Karachi arrested a drug trafficker Abdul Majeed, resident of Ghotki, when he was travelling on a motorcycle near Bus Terminal, Sukkur City, and recovered 7.5kg hashish from his personal possession.

All the cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations and further investigations are underway.
