LUANDA: Angolan imports have dropped 33,6 percent in the last three months this year as compared with the same period of 2015. The information is contained in the latest edition of the Statistic Bulletin of the National Shippers Council (CNC). According CNC data, 1.5 million tons of assorted goods entered the country in the first three months this year, against 2.3 million tons of 2015.
Clinker for the manufacture of Portland-type cement remains the main Angolan import, with 341,5 tons, against 288,2 tons of last year, representing an 18,49 percent increase. Rice recorded a drop of 21,41 percent and wheat reached 0,58 percent, while meats, including chicken, dropped 46,55 percent. CNC indicates that of the ten top imported goods, seven are in the food sector that includs sugar, palm oil, cereal flours and a large variety of pastas.
The import of cars recorded the greatest fall with 91,28 percent in the first quarter of 2016 as compared with the same period the previous year. Altogether, only 2,059 vehicles entered the country this year, against 23,615 of the previous year, that is a drop of 21.556 cars.
