Anti-smuggling Lahore seizes illegally imported items above worth Rs 285 million

LAHORE: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) of the Pakistan Customs has seized contraband goods and vehicles worth Rs 285 million from July to March, 15 during current fiscal year 2014-15.

The illegally imported goods and articles were impounded on the instructions of Customs-Preventive Lahore Collector Mukarram Jah Ansari.

The ASO deputy superintendents and inspectors, including Saleem Akhtar, Ch Saleem, Sajad Bukahri, Arif Mayo, Shahid Bhatti, Aslam Iqbal and others under the guidance and supervision of Additional Collector of Customs Baleem Ramzan, Deputy Collector of Customs Shafiqur Rehman and ASO Superintendent Mumtaz Ajmal Mian carried out the job.

As per details, ASO conducted 236 successful raids and seized contraband goods and illegally imported items worth Rs 285 million during the period under review.

The ASO confiscated cloth, plastic products, auto parts, Iron& Steel sheets, electronic goods, toiletries products, generators, vehicles artificial leather, skimmed milk powder, cigarettes, fresh ginger and motor oil.

The ASO confiscated the goods and articles under section 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.

The ASO held Rs 11 million vehicles and other contraband items in 12 cases during the month of July FY 2014-15.

The organization impounded three vehicles worth Rs 5 million in three cases while it seized contraband goods worth Rs 11 million in 21 cases in August.

Similarly the ASO registered 26 cases seizing one vehicle and other items worth Rs 33 million in September.

The anti-smuggling confiscated goods and articles worth Rs 61 million in 12 cases during October of the FY 2014-15, while during November; it held illegal items worth Rs 26 million in 24 cases.

The organization registered 15 cases and impounded vehicles and contraband goods worth Rs 11 million in December, while it seized goods and articles worth Rs 18 million in January 2015.

The ASO team further impounded above Rs 30 million ACs, cars and 120 drums of Iranian motor oil by March 15, of FY 2014-15.

Similarly, the anti-smuggling wing Lahore Preventive also confiscated smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 32 million in 6 cases, while Airport customs registered 98 cases and seized illegal mobile phones, gold and other contraband goods worth Rs 36 million.
