Customs JIAP seizes gold, foreign currency worth Rs190m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs has seized gold jewellery, gold bars and foreign currency worth around Rs190 million at the arrivals terminal of Jinnah International Airport.

According to officials, a passenger holding a Pakistani passport was intercepted after arriving from Abu Dhabi along with family members on an international flight and was directed to the red channel for detailed inspection.

During scanning of luggage and hand-carry items, customs authorities detected concealed valuables. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 281 tolas of 22-karat gold jewellery and two 24-karat gold bars weighing 10 tolas each.

Officials also recovered foreign currency, including $33,100 and 366,000 UAE dirhams.

A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1969, and the seized items have been taken into custody. Authorities said further investigation is in progress.
