Anti-smuggling operations on M1 and M2 motorways yield good results

LAHORE: Customs Intelligence and Investigations anti-smuggling operations on M1 and M2 motorways has yielded good results, sources told Customs Today on Tuesday.

It was said that Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigations Imtiaz Ahmad Khan initiated anti-smuggling operations a few months ago on M1 and M2 motorways.

The sources said that Customs Intelligence and Investigations had started process of recruiting constables through NTS and inspectors through FPSC, an initiative that would solve the problem of shortage of staff in the department.

IIt was added that Customs I&I was of the view that smugglers used to take advantage of long border area in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however, Customs I&I, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies was able to reduce smuggling there. It was said that efforts being made to counter smuggling through border with Iran were proving beneficial with the help from FC, however, admitted still a lot has to be done with the cooperation from all to achieve complete success.

The sources said that the Customs I&I director were given anti-smuggling targets to Customs I&I officials of Sadiqabad and DG Khan which were also achieved. The source said that customs I&I also inspected shops and seized smuggled items since the start of the operation.
