Anti-smuggling wing confiscates non-duty paid goods

LAHORE: Anti-Smuggling Wing of Model Customs Collectorate Lahore has recovered Rs 4 million from traders who are accused of trying to evade duties/taxes on imports.

Official sources said that the Anti-smuggling wing seized miscellaneous goods including plastic granules, 17 generators of various capacities, old auto-parts and others worth Rs 3,163,929 and handbags and shoulder bags for ladies worth Rs 814,864.

Sources said that technically the goods seized under this category do not come under the smuggling head. They said confiscation of such goods and articles is undertaken when either the importer or clearing agents knowingly or unknowingly evade taxes.

Furthermore, when the taxes are paid by the owners, goods are released at once.

Meanwhile, recovery of taxes worth millions of rupees on the aforementioned goods is under process.
