NEW YORK: iPhone or iPad owners are waiting for new iOS versions to be released, which normally should be more stable and with improvements in matter of battery life. But when iOS 8.3 came, some users had second thoughts and wanted to return to the previous version. In this article, we’re presenting a tutorial about how to downgrade iOS 8.3 to 8.2, if you own an iPhone, iPad or an iPod touch.
At the beginning of April, Apple released the iOS 8.3 update and many rushed to install it, but afterwards, they realized it was a bad move and wanted to toll back to the previous iOS 8.2. Apple still allows users to downgrade from iOS 8.3 to iOS 8.2, but soon, the signing window will be closed and this downgrade will no longer be possible.
Indeed, iOS 8.3 came with many improvements in terms of performance and it brought many bug fixes, but it’s still not jail breakable and the users will have to wait a little longer until TaiG or Pangu will manage to break this OS. The 8.2 version can’t be jail broken both because Apple had patched up some exploits in iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 and jail breaking them would be extremely difficult.
If you decide to downgrade from iOS 8.3 to iOS 8.2, you will lose all the bug fixes, battery and performance improvements, so think again. There’s the option to wait until iOS 8.4 will be released with even more improvements.
So, if you’re about to return to the previous iOS version, here are the steps you’ll have to take:
First of all, you need to backup your data: photos, videos, music, and save them in the iCloud or on a computer. The full Backup option is available in iCloud and iTunes, but you won’t be able to restore backups make in iOS 8.3 or older versions. After backing up your data, download the iOS 8.2 firmware file and start iTunes, then go to the device’s Summary page. Next, you’ll have to hold down the Shift key if you’re using Windows and Alt key on the Mac’s keyboard, then click the iPhone button. You will then browse and select the iOS 8.2 IPSW file that was downloaded previously and open it, to begin the downgrading/restoring process to getting back to iOS 8.2.
You will have to wait a few minutes for the process to be completed, so don’t interfere and make sure the battery is full, otherwise the device will turn off and you will have to start the process all over again.
