NEW YORK: Apple reveals at its 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference that in iOS 9 advertisers and other companies will no longer be able to view app-download data for ad-targeting purposes, according to reports.

This means that third parties will not be able to view apps that users have downloaded to their Apple devices running the upcoming mobile operating system.

Currently, access is gained to the information through an application programming interface (API) known in iOS as “canopenURL,” a Wednesday Business Insider report explained, stating that Apple considers this an unintended use.

Changes are expected to go into effect in the fall when Apple issues its next large software update, the report said.

Apple revealed a variety of new privacy and security features when introducing iOS 9, including six-digit passwords and two-factor authentication.
