NEW YORK: Apple’s upcoming set-top boxes will support third-party controllers for gaming, which is good news for anyone (everyone) who doesn’t like gaming with a touchpad.
That should line up with Apple TV’s late October release date. “What if Apple rejects apps that feature bad controls for the remote, designed only to achieve the bare minimum functionality?” That said, there’s something else about Apple’s TV that could potentially chase a few developers away. But the company’s restriction means that owners will be able to play every game in the Apple TV catalog and won’t be annoyed by titles that require them to purchase a controller. On Apple TV, developers will be forced to support the included Remote first, and more fully featured, game-focused controllers after that.
