Appraisement East R&D issues recovery notice to M/s Reliance Industries

KARACHI: The Research and Analysis (R&D) section of Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East has unearthed the tax evasion of Rs40.5million in the clearance of “plastic-dana” consignment imported by M/s Reliance Industries.

According to details, the Collector Appraisement East Ashadd Jawad on a credible information directed the R&D section to verify the post clearance consignments of the importer M/s Reliance Industries for last eight months.

During the scrutiny, it was found by the R&D section that the said importer M/s Reliance industries was willfully involved in tax evasion of Rs40.5million in term of duty and taxes in the clearance of around 95 consignments of “plastic-dana” by importing the consignments through “Green Channel”.

The R&D sources informed Customs Today that the importer M/s Reliance Industries cleared around 200 consignments of “plastic-dana” during the eight month of time, however; it has evaded duty/taxes of Rs40.5million on 95 consignments.

The sources further informed this scribe that a recovery notice has already been sent to the importer M/s Reliance Industries adding that the importer has also deposited an amount of Rs20.3million in connection with evaded duty taxes.

The R&D sources said that the importer has also assured that it will deposit the remaining evaded amount of Rs20.2million in 10 days of time.

It may be mentioned here that the Collector Appraisement East Ashadd Jawad has already issued an assessment alert in which he asked all the Collectorates to keep vigil eye on tax evasion attempts, so that more revenue collection could be made possible.
