Appraisement-East recovers Rs 30 million from ICI Pakistan

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement-East has recovered an amount of Rs 30 million from ICI Pakistan on a case of evasion of duties/taxes following the order of Customs Adjudication-II, Karachi.

Collector of Customs Adjudication-II had given its decision in the favour of a contravention report earlier filed by MCC Appraisement-East and ordered the accused company to deposit the tax in the national exchequer.

The evaded amount claimed in the contravention report is to the tune of Rs 33.94 million.

In his order, the collector Adjudication-II stated that “he is convinced that the charges levelled in the show cause notice stand established in terms of Sections 19,32, 32(A),79 and 192 of the Customs Act, 1969 Section 33 of the Sales Tax Act 1990 and Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. In exercise of powers conferred upon me under Section 32(2) of the Customs Act, 1969. I, therefore, order M/s ICI Pakistan Limited (NTN No-0710672), to deposit the short paid amount of Rs 33.94 million including sales tax amounting to Rs 22.589 million, additional sales tax amounting to Rs 2.557 million and income tax amounting to Rs 797,329 and customs duty amounting to Rs 7.99 million into the government treasury.”

While, following the orders, ICI Pakistan deposited Rs 30 millions into the government treasury.
