Appraisement East seizes 5th betel nut consignment

KARACHI: Customs Appraisement East has seized 5th consignment of betel nut as the recent one was on the way from Jebel-e-Ali port and was cleared in the garb of soap.

Appraisement East Collector Saeed Akram has already directed the staff to be keep a vigilant eye on such consignments. The collector appreciated the examination officers, including ADC Sheeraz Ahmed, PICT AC Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi and AO Kaleem Chattha.

The consignment was filed by M/s Ali Bagh Enterprises at PICT, in which betel nuts were found concealed in iron drums which were declared to contain soap stock. Almost 90 per cent of drums were filled with betel nuts while a layer of soap stock was placed on top of the drums to conceal betel nuts.

The consignment was shipped form Jebel-e-Ali port and trader’s profile reflected that it was the first GD filed by the said commercial importer. The consignment was found to contain five containers which are under investigation. The clearing agent, present on spot, is under customs custody and efforts are being made to locate the owner of M/s Ali Bagh Enterprises.
