KARACHI: Additional Collector (ADC) Nayyar Shafiq has said that the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) of Appraisement-West is working on every legal aspect and mulling ways of prosecution through which the culprits involved in the import of banned antibiotics can be nabbed.
Nayyar Shafiq, who is also the in-charge of the AIB Appraisement-West, told Customs Today at his office that the AIB wants to establish a solid case against the culprits involved in the importation of banned antibiotics, so that the offenders don’t get a chance to dodge the law.
“The authorities concerned of the AIB are diligently working on the findings and outcome of the aforesaid case and trying to tighten its grip around the real accused,” he added.
He further said that regular meetings of the authorities concerned of the Appraisement-West with Appraisement-South Chief Collector Nasir Masroor Ahmed are being held. He said that the Appraisement-South chief collector has issued clear directives to investigate the case with great competency and proficiency.
Responding to a query, ADC Nayyar Shafiq said that the collectorate “does not wants to waste its efforts on arresting low-profile suspects” in the case, while the AIB officials are striving hard to get the breakthrough by arresting key suspects.
It may be mentioned here that the prime accused, including importer Ziauddin and clearing agent Rajab Ali, are not in the country and living abroad as overseas Pakistanis.
On the other hand, it is pertinent to mention here that the Research and Development Section of Appraisement-East has arrested Muhammad Ali Chandna for his alleged involvement in clearing the consignments of banned antibiotics from ports.
The importation of banned antibiotics was first uncovered by the authorities concerned of AIB of Appraisement-West in October 2014, in which then appraiser Shahid Ibrahim Dasti registered an FIR against the importer M/s Chemi Co Ziauddin and clearing agent Rajab Ali of M/s Rajab Ali Enterprises.
