Collector Saleem: Appraisement-West to appoint attachment officers to execute revenue recovery

KARACHI: The Collector of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement-West Muhammad Saleem has revealed that the Collectorate will soon appoint “attachment officers” in order to execute the revenue recovery in befitting manner.

The Collector Muhammad Saleem disclosed this while talking to Customs Today at his office.

On the occasion, the Collector-MCC Appraisement-West said that the authorities concerned of the Collectorate after getting complete information of the defaulters will appoint attachment officers in the final phase of the revenue recovery for collecting the debts.

To a query, Collector Muhammad Saleem informed this scribe that the Collectorate will also contact with National Database Regulatory Authority (NADRA), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other commercial banks for getting complete details of the defaulters.

“The attachment officer will attach the property and bank accounts of the defaulters in case of non-payment of the outstanding amounts mounted against any importers”, he asserted.

M Saleem further said that steps are being taken against the defaulters according to the recovery rules and no room would be provided to those, who evaded government legitimate revenue in forms of duty/taxes.

“The authorities concerned of the Collectorate are also approaching to the authorities of Sales Tax and Income Tax in order to find the details of the deposited duty/taxes by the importers for last 25years”, he added.

Responding to another query, M Saleem further said that the Collectorate has appointed individual officer in order to follow FTO, Tribunal and court cases to ensure speedy recovery of the government revenue.

Commenting on the assessment issues, Collector Muhammad Saleem cleared that the authorities concerned of the Collectorate keeping every legal aspect into their minds prior to assess the value of any imported item.

Terming the case related to the import of banned antibiotic into country as “test case”, Collector Muhammad Saleem cleared that the said case would certainly gets a “logical end”.

He said that the joint investigation teams of MCC Appraisement-West and MCC Appraisement-East is investigating the case and their inquiry into the case is going towards right direction.

Responding to a query, Collector claimed that the Pakistan Customs would definitely solve the case and bring the accused into court of law.
