Appraisement West thwarts tax evasion attempt at KICT

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement West in a successful raid foiled a bid to evade duty and taxes worth millions of rupees at Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT).

According to the details, on the tip-off by higher authorities, the team pf Appraisement West intercepted a TP container at KICT and examined the legal documents. The said TP container was destined for Islamabad Dry Port and it was transported by bonded carrier M/s. Z.S Logistics Pvt Ltd bearing CHAL No.2749.

The legal documents of the said TP container declared as used auto parts imported from United Arab Emirates by M/s. Usman Trading Company holding National Tax No 7958673 but while detailed examination resulted into recovery of 2350 kilograms of assorted perfumes, twelve units of used Suzuki pickups in dismantled condition assorted models from 1990 to 1998.

Appraisement West team informed Customs Today that the used auto parts comprising seventy six pcs of 3/4 cylinder petrol/diesel engines were found from the TP container whereas the total value of offending goods is said to be Rs 9,457,128/- involving duty and taxes of Rs 11,394,431. The case has been registered over the evasion of the duty and taxes.
