KARACHI: A team of Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB/R&D) of Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement-West has almost completed its investigation into import of vehicles on forged permission letter of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC).
Sources informed Customs Today that a two-member committee — who had gone to Islamabad while following the directives of Collector MCC Appraisement, Muhammad Saleem for investigating the matter — has returned to Karachi and preparing its report in this regard.
Sources further informed this scribe that the AIB/R&D team has found that both the vehicles were imported on fake MoC letter.
It is pertinent to mention here that the AIB/R&D of MCC Appraisement-West found that seven imported vehicles were brought into country on fake letter, last year, on which collectorate registered an FIR into the case and also recovered five among total seven vehicles.
Sources informed this scribe that the AIB/R&D team during its investigation has found that vehicles were released on fake letter of the Ministry of Commerce while a vehicle was cleared by the M/s Bahria Town on fake letter.
It is pertinent to mention here that the importer M/s Bahria Town has moved Sindh High Court (SHC) over the said issue of importation of vehicles on fake letter.
Sources said that the AIB/R&D team has almost completed its investigation and will submit the final report before the additional collector Nayyar Shafiq by next week.
