ISLAMABAD: The month of April will likely to witness more than usual rain and storms, warns the Meteorological Office.

These abnormal rains would cause harm to the farmers as wheat harvesting and threshing season is going to start, while harvesting in Sindh has almost started, in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it begins in May, where the crops are still standing, said Dr Ghulam Rasul, the chief meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Dr Rasul maintained that this unusual spell may not only harm wheat crops, but also mango orchids in southern parts of Punjab. “Hail can also damage the tobacco leaves piercing through them and causing the prices to fall,” said he added.

Last year, a similar phenomenon hit farmers, which was on a small scale. Most farmers took the predictions of extreme weather seriously and were mostly able to save their yield.
