BUENOS AIRES: Carlos Nair Menem, the son of former President Carlos Menem, was arrested on Tuesday along with another person in possession of cocaine, a rifle and a pistol with the serial number filed down, Argentine police said.
The arrest was made in the Buenos Aires suburb of Moreno about 6:30 a.m. after a neighbor complained to police about an alleged confrontation with two men riding a motor scooter, police district commander Gabriel Duva told reporters.
Menem and his companion, who has not been publicly identified, tried to flee on the motor scooter but were arrested a short distance away, Duva added.
At the time of his arrest, the son of the former president had in his possession “a 9 mm revolver with the number filed off and several doses of cocaine” and the driver of the motorscooter had “a .765-caliber rifle with ammunition,” the police commander said.
The pair were taken to the prosecutor’s office to make statements.
Carlos Nair Menem, 33, has been involved in several incidents in recent years, including one on March 18, when he told police that several men had attacked his home in Moreno and “fired about 50 shots.” EFE
