ASF foils bid to smuggle foreign currency

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Smuggling Force has foiled an attempt to smuggle currency to Doha at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad and arrested the accused on the spot.

According to details, Model Customs Collectorate’s Anti-Smuggling Force has recovered foreign currency, including 500,000 US dollars, 1550 Canadian dollars, 260 Thai bhat and Rs 5000 Indian currency from Ijaz Baig son of Riaz Baig on Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad during checking/ search of passengers of Qatar Airways flight no QR-631.

The Customs authorities sources said that the accused want to smuggled this amount to Doha as the flight was ready to fly. ASF Inspector Amjad Maqbool has arrested the accused Ijaz Baig and registered case of currency smuggling against him. Further proceedings are still in progress.
