ISLAMABAD: The Airport Security Force (ASF) Monday foiled a bid to smuggle two kilograms ice heroin abroad and arrested the accused woman here at Benazir Islamabad Airport.
The ASF sources said that during search of baggage of a lady passenger, identified as Nazeer Mai, leaving for Saudi Arabia via Muscat, at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad, two kilogram ice heroin was recovered.
According to an ASF spokesperson, the custody of the arrested woman, who hailed from Muzzafargarh, was handed over to Anti-Narcotics Force for registration of an FIR against her under the relevant anti-narcotics law and further investigation into the matter.
This is the second attempt of smuggling of contraband foiled by the ASF within last ten days of this month.
The ASF had earlier on June 12 arrested a couple for trying to smuggle heroin to Saudi Arabia at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.
According to the airport officials, the passengers – Anwar and his spouse – were due to board a flight for Jeddah to perform Umrah when they were intercepted. During search they claimed to recover six kilograms of heroin from their luggage.
The anti-narcotics force had foiled another attempt of smuggling in May, this year and recovered 20 kilograms of heroin from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight at the Islamabad airport. Heroin was recovered from Flight PK-785 destined to depart for London from the Benazir International Airport.
