ASO busts huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts, contraband items

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) recovers huge quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees in two different raids.

According to the details, on the tip of higher authority, the team of ASO conducted a raid at the famous market Jodia bazaar during which huge quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees were recovered.

The sources informed Customs Today that the raid was conducted during the mid-night of Saturday after receiving strong intelligence based information regarding the storage of smuggled goods in the godowns of the Jodia bazaar.

During the raid at the godowns of the Jodia bazaar, the team of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Custom Collectorate (MCC) Preventive recovered six hundred and seventy eight bags of betel nuts (assorted). The recovered betel nuts are thirty six thousand six hundred and sixty in kilograms which worth Rs9, 018,360/- (C&F) approximately.

In second successful raid in the same vicinity the team recovered one hundred and eight bags of India origin Gutka having four lac eighty six thousand pouches which is calculated to nine hundred and seventy two kilograms, twenty five bags of betel nuts which is calculated two thousand kilograms, one hundred forty three dandas of cigarettes, two bundles of ladies cloth and two rolls of curtain cloth worth Rs.7900,000/- C&F approx. The total cost and freight (C&F) value of seized smuggled goods, contraband items is to the tune of Rs16,918,360 approximately.

Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Custom Collectorate Preventive has registered the case against the heinous crime of smuggling whereas raids are being conducted to apprehend the culprits.
