ASO confiscates 742 kg of smuggled fabric valued Rs550000

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized 742 kilogram of foreign origin smuggled fabric and imposed a penalty on the offending vehicle (vehicle used for carrying smuggled goods). The value of said goods including fine is Rs550000.
According to ASO Islamabad that on 1st of May, 2017 on a tip-off, the ASO formed a squad and set up a checking-point at the Motorway exit point and intercepted a Toyota Corolla car. The ASO staff asked the possessors to show any proof that the loaded fabric is not smuggled one but the possessors failed to produce any proof. After the firsthand information, the ASO staff brought the smuggled goods along with the vehicle to the State Where House.
The appraised value of the seized fabric was Rs450000 whereas the offending vehicle had to pay a fine of Rs100000. An FIR has been lodged against the possessors of foreign origin fabric and the case has been forwarded to prosecution and investigation department for further action. The fabric was seized by Inspector Muhammad Asif of the ASO and other supporting staff.
The ASO Islamabad seized 79,947 yards of foreign origin fabric in different seizures which value Rs51.82million during 10 months (July to April) of Financial Year 2016-17. The ASO Islamabad seized various smuggled goods, offending vehicles and Non-Duty-Paid (NDP) vehicles worth Rs308.353million during 09 and a half months (1st July to 20th April) of Financial Year 2016-17.
