ASO confiscates non-duty paid items worth Rs 2m

KARACHI: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has foiled a smuggling attempt in a recent raid and confiscated contraband items worth Rs 2 million.

According to details, in pursuance of a tip-off received by Director General Shaukat Ali, the ASO team started searching vehicles at Mochko.

While searching the vehicles, the ASO team intercepted a public transport vehicle bearing registration no: CH-14538. The team searched the vehicle and recovered non-duty paid electronic items, including different mobile phones, cameras as well as foreign origin cigarettes. The items were being smuggled from Afghanistan to Karachi.

The ASO team asked the possessor to show legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the said items. But he remained failed to show any required document. After his failure, the ASO team confiscated the smuggled items and registered a case of smuggling against the accused. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
