ASO confiscates smuggled cloth, cigarettes; impounds bus

ISLAMABAD: Custom Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi’s Anti-Smuggling Organisation confiscated smuggled cloth, cigarettes and rims worth Rs 900,000.

In pursuance of information, the anti-smuggling staff intercepted a bus bearing Registration No. JB-3591 (Sindh) coming from Peshawar near Burhan G.T. Road. Apparently the said vehicle was found loaded with foreign origin goods. Thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of witnesses and owner of the goods which led to the recovery of 32 pieces of alloys rims, 1440 packets of cigarettes, gents and ladies cloth and curtain cloth.

At the time of occurrence eight persons claimed the ownership of the above mentioned recovered foreign origin goods but on demand they failed to produce any evidence regarding legal import or lawful possession of recovered foreign origin goods, therefore, the said smuggled goods along with bus was seized under Section 168 and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 after serving notice u/s. 171 ibid.

The approximate value of above said smuggled goods comes to Rs 900,000 excluding value of impounded vehicle which is estimated as Rs.2 million. Further proceedings are in progress.
