ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized imported cloth and Samsung LCD TV worth Rs 629,475 during an action.
As per details, the ASO staff received information through Customs Preventive Deputy Collector Shahid Jan that smuggled goods will be supplied through a bus from Peshawar to other areas.
After receiving information, a raiding party comprising Superintendent Zargam Dil, Superintendent Nasir Qadeer Barlas, Deputy Superintendent Abdul Malik, Deputy Superintendent Ahmed Junaid and Inspector Abdul Hafeez along with other staff established check post at Pindi-Lahore GT Road.
The staff intercepted a bus for checking that led to the recovery of 1039 kilogram of cloth worth Rs 545,475 and Samsun LCD TV worth Rs 84,000. The officials confiscated the goods under Section 2(c) 16 of Customs Act, 1969 after no one could produce document regarding legal import of the goods.
Shahid Jan said that the anti-smuggling Squad will not let anyone to evade duty/taxes as such acts harm the national economy badly. He added that Collector Dr Arslan has given special instruction to ASO to take stern actions against smuggled goods and vehicles.
FIR has been lodged under the customs laws, while case has been sent to the adjudication for further legal proceedings.
