ASO impounds cumin seed & vehicle worth Rs6.17m on Islamabad Motorway

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization seized 22,250 kilogram of Indian cumin seed along with an offending vehicle (vehicle used for carrying smuggled goods) valued Rs6.17million on Islamabad Motorway on Thursday.

On a tip-off received by the ASO, the squad intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TKA-046 and asked the possessors to show the relevant documents but they failed to do so.

The ASO staff seized the cumin seed along with the vehicle and shifted it to the State Ware House for further action. The value of the seized cumin is Rs4.67million whereas the impounded offending vehicle’s value is Rs1.5million.

An FIR has been filed against the evaders and further investigation is underway. The performance of the Preventive Department has been good during the current Financial Year 2016-17against the corresponding year 2015-16.

Sources said that during on May 30th 2016 the ASO was also confiscated Indian cumin seeds (zeera) worth Rs 2.1 million, besides impounding the vehicle worth Rs.1.0 million, Sources said that during last 9 months the performance of ASO was good adding that the ASO seized 118 NDP and offending vehicles  worth of Rs287.925 million whereas the ASO made many seizers of foreign origin fabrics, NDP vehicles, smuggled cigarettes, black tea, tyres and tubes and alloy rims, auto parts, cell phones and electronic items.
