ASO impounds Toyota Crown worth Rs 2.5m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Crown Royal Saloon car worth Rs 2.5 million during an action.

As per details, the ASO staff received information through its source that a non-duty paid vehicle Toyota Crown is roaming in the capital (Islamabad) for many days without proper documentation.

In pursuance of information, the officials reached at G-9 area under the jurisdiction of the Islamabad Customs where the car was intercepted bearing Registration No AAJ 139. The squad asked the owner to produce legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle but he failed to show any relevant documents.

After investigation, the customs officials found that Toyota Crown car’s number plate was fake and the owner of the car is a businessman.

The duty officer, Superintend Chaudhary Safdar impounded the vehicle under Customs Act, 1969 and arrested the owner, while documents of the vehicle have been sent for examination.

It may be mentioned here that FBR has issued special instructions to all customs departments including Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Customs Airport staff, Field Investigation Units (FIUs) and others to take quick and appropriate steps to arrest smugglers in order to curb the smuggling of goods and vehicles.

FIR has been registered against the accused persons, while further investigation is underway in the case.
