ASO impounds truck, smuggled goods worth Rs 5m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Islamabad has seized Hino truck along with smuggled Korean origin carbon ink and china made crockery worth Rs 5 million.

Following credible information, the ASO team intercepted a Hino truck coming from Peshawar and heading towards Islamabad for checking that led to the recovery of four cartons of Korean carbon ink and 39 carton of crockery.

The officials asked the driver to provide documents regarding legal import of the loaded goods, but he could not produce the same; therefore, the officials impounded the truck worth Rs 3 million and recovered items under the customs laws and shifted them to state warehouse.

The ASO team comprising Superintend Zargam Dil, Superintend Nasir Barlas, Inspector Asif and others participated in the raid. Officials said that noose was being tightened around the smugglers in order to curb smuggling in country.

It may be mentioned here that the ASO seized miscellaneous goods worth Rs 10.297 million during first four months (July-October) of running financial year 2016-17. The department confiscated cloth, food grains, black tea, tyres/tubes, auto parts, engine oil, cigarettes, electronic goods, blankets, and miscellaneous goods, besides impounding many vehicles, which were being used for smuggling, during the four months.

It is learnt that ASO under supervision of Collector Dr.Arslan working with very sophisticated techniques using model vehicles and other modern facilities, he adding that during the first quarter of financial year 2016-17 the ASO perform actively against evader and smugglers.
