ASO Islamabad seizes smuggled Irani carpets worth Rs14m

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (AS) have seized huge quantity of smuggled Iranian carpets worth Rs14 million along with offending vehicle.

Sources told Customs Today that credible information was received by Collector Junaid Jalil Khan that an attempt would be made to smuggle foreign origin carpets through a 12-wheel truck model-1993 coming from Quetta to Rawalpindi.

To check the authenticity of the information in hand a riding party comprises Deputy Collector Jalal Zadhi, Jamil Akhtar Superintendent, Tasweer e Mustafa Superintendent, Muhammad Asif Inspector, Fahim Ahmad UDC and Javed Ahmad LDC, Sepoy Anjum Shahzad, Shaukat Mehmood, Mohsan Shah and driver Jaffar Hussain was constituted.

The Squad held a nakabandi at 26 number Chungi near Islamabad Motorway while the hinted truck was intercepted customs staff whereas through search of the said truck led to recovery of Iranian origin different sizes carpets in quantity of 23308 (twenty three thousand three hundred and eight).

The total value of the of carpets is Rs.11.09 million while seized offending (vehicle use for smuggling) vehicle is estimated in worth of Rs. 03 million, the case has been registered and forwarded for further investigation to I&P department.
