FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sargodha impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled used Honda city car valued at Rs500000 involving duties and taxes of Rs285000 during an action near Session Road Sargodha.
Reportedly, Assistant Collector Shah Samad Hamadani received a tip-off that a smuggled vehicle was brought into the country without payment of customs duty. After receiving the secret information, Deputy Collector instructed Superintendent Choudhary Muhammad Sardar to set up a picket on Faisalabad Road in order to abort the smuggling attempt.
Superintendent and his team, comprising Inspectors Malik Atif Ali, Bashir Ahmed, Sepoys Rana Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Amin, Hafiz Naseer Ahmed, Shafqat Mehmood and others, started checking the vehicles. The team intercepted a Honda city without affixed registration plate.
The team asked owner Muhammad Nadeem Javeed son of Ghulam Mustafa, Proprietor Farooq Auto Workshop, Session Road Sargodha city, to show the documents regarding the legal import of the car but he could not produce the same.
So the officials took into possession the smuggled vehicle under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act-1969, Section 3 of the Sales Tax Act-1990 and shifted the car to the Customs Warehouse Sargodha. The team also registered a case under the Customs Act-1969 against the accused.
