ASO seizes 1190 different brands of mobile phones near Chakwal

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs team seized different brands of 1190 mobile phones from the jurisdiction of police station Neela (Chakwal) and arrested accused person.

Additional Collector Muhammad Ashfaq Khan told Customs Today that Collector Seema Raza Bukhari received credible information about smuggling of mobile phones from Peshawar to Lahore.

She directed anti-smuggling squads to enhance checking on main roads. The customs team intercepted a Toyota Corolla car near Neela area of Chakwal but the driver ignored the signal and tried to flee away.

Additional Collector Ashfaq said that customs team chased the vehicle and detained it after some distance. During checking customs team recovered various brands of mobile phones which included Nokia and Q-Mobile. The vehicle was then brought to the premises of the State Warehouse Islamabad where through search led to the recovery of 1190 mobile phones which were seized along with carrier vehicle and the driver named Firdoos, a resident of KPK.

Ashfaq told that the estimated value of seized mobile phones and vehicle is around Rs6.5 million (mobiles Rs.3.5 million and vehicle Rs.3 million). He said that a case has been registered against the possessor of mobile phones while further investigations are still underway.

He said that the Customs staff took part in the operation included Superintendent Abad Hussain, Inspector Junaid and Qurban, Sepoys Anjum , Sajid , Muzamal Shah and Havaldar Anwar.
