ASO seizes cloth, soaps and LCDs worth Rs 5m

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) seized foreign origin smuggled goods, including cloth, soaps and LCDs worth Rs 5 million recovered from a passenger bus of “Nishe Bus Service” during action.

According to details, the ASO staff received information through Islamabad Customs Collector Arslan Subuctageen that a passenger bus bearing Registration No. LWC-8706 is coming from Peshawar and going to Lahore carrying smuggled goods.

After getting the information, the ASO team established a picket at Motorway 1 (M1) near Brahama Bahtar interchange and intercepted the said passenger bus after long chasing with help of motorways police.

During checking, the officials found huge quantity of foreign origin fabric weighing 1100 kilogramme and 303 cartons of Dove soap and 11 LCDs of 42 and 32 inches from the bus. The officials confiscated the items after the owner failed to show documents regarding legal import of the items.

A smuggler named Attaullah resident of Peshawar was arrested during the raid, while driver of the bus fled from the scene when ASO squad intercepted the vehicle. FIR has been lagged against alleged smuggler and case has been forward to Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further action.

The ASO team comprising Deputy Superintend Rana Shakeel, Inspector Asif and other sepoys participated in the raid.
