ASO seizes goods, vehicles worth Rs 77m during Q1

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth 77.421 million during first quarter of current fiscal year 2016-17.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that the ASO seized 20,270 kilogramme of foreign origin cloth worth Rs 11.174 million during the said period. It also impounded 34 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 40.668 million].

During first quarter, the ASO seized 20,358kg food grains worth Rs 3.322, besides confiscating 1725kg black tea worth Rs 630,776, Jan said, adding that the department also confiscated tyres, tubes and 106 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 154,980.

Meanwhile, the ASO confiscated goods and vehicles valued at Rs 8.596 million during September 25 to 30, 2016. It included miscellaneous items worth Rs 2.596 million and non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 6 million which were impounded during the said period while conducting various raids against smugglers.

The ASO officials seized foreign origin fabric in quantity of 3,417kgworth Rs 1.79 million and impounded six vehicles worth Rs 6 million during the said period.

The officials seized 538kg food grains worth Rs 97,808, 635kg black team valued at Rs 192,675, while seizing 36 tyres and tubes worth Rs 75,600 during the last five days of September. The department also confiscated 56 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 24,780 were confiscated during raid.
