ASO seizes non-duty paid spices worth Rs2.531m, impounds offending vehicle

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized black cardamom (elachi), cimamon (darchini), nirgundi seeds (tukhme sanbhalu) along with offending vehicle worth Rs2.531 million.

According to details, the ASO squad was on its routine patrolling when they intercepted a Bedford truck registration No: AJK-748 and asked the possessor to show documents of legal possession and transportation of loaded goods. The possessors remained failed to provide any required document.

After that, the ASO staff registered a case of smuggling against the accused possessor and seized the goods and transported the goods to the Customs state ware house.

Sources said that the seized goods includes 1862 kilogram of black cardamom (elachi) worth Rs0.977 million, 825 kilogram cimamon (darchini) worth Rs0.259 million and 5610 kilogram of nirgundi seeds (tukhme sanbhalu) worth Rs0.294 million. The ASO staff also impounded the offending vehicle worth Rs1.0 million.

The seized truck was coming from Azad Jamu and Kashmir (AJK) and heading towards Rawalpindi.

Further investigations are under-way.
