ASO seizes offending vehicle, Indian fabric worth Rs 8.5m from GT Road

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad has seized Indian origin fabric and impounded an offending vehicle worth Rs 8.5 million near Sohawa on GT Road .

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that on pursuance of an information the ASO intercepted a truck which was coming from Kashmir carrying smuggled Indian fabric.

Shahid Jan said that the value of seized fabric is Rs 5 million while the value of offending vehicle is Rs 3 .5 million. He said that an FIR has been registered against the tax evaders and offending vehicle. The customs staff, who conducted that operation, comprises Superintendent Zargam Dil, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and Inspector Asif.

It is necessary to mention here that ASO under supervision of Collector Dr. Arslan is using latest techniques to curb smuggling attempts in the region. Shahid Jan said that during the first quarter of financial year 2016-17 the ASO perform outstandingly.

Sources said that most of the impounding smuggled items impounded during first four months of FY16-17 were included as cloth, food grains, black tea, tires/tubes, auto parts, mobil oil, cigarettes, electronic goods, blankets, and miscellaneous goods, and also seized many offending vehicles.

Sources adding that during month of July FY 2016-17 the ASO seized smuggled goods amounting Rs.23.930 million as for as during month of August value of seized items was Rs.31.338 million and during month of September FY16-17 ASO seized smuggled goods under value of Rs.50.962 million.

He said that customs collectorate already exceeded its target of customs duty for month of October 2016-17.
