LAHORE: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized smuggled, non-duty paid goods and vehicles worth Rs 61.60 million in February 2016.
Sources informed Customs Today that the Anti-Smuggling Organization of Customs Collectorate (Preventive), on the directions of the Collector of Customs (Preventive), headed by Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, Assistant Collector, Munawar Ahmad Khan Superintendent, M/s. Saleem Akhtar and Ejaz Rasool Shah, Deputy Superintendents Gulzar Hussain Bhati, Muhammad Khalid Butt, Amjad Khan, Abdul Ghaffar, Ghulam Hussain Kalas, Shahid Khan, Sajjad Hussain Bukhari, Abdul Hameed Bhatti, Tariq Baig, Muhammad Arif and Asif Nawaz, inspectors seized smuggled, non-duty paid goods and vehicles during February, 2016 valuing Rs.61.60 million.
Sources said that cases of valuing Rs 51.137 million were made during the month of February, 2015. Cases valuing Rs 335.09 million have been made during the period from July, 2015 to February, 2016 whereas cases valuing Rs 286.715 million were made during corresponding period of last year (2014-15). An increase of Rs 10.46 million excess as compared with the February, 2015 and increase of Rs 48.375 million excess as compared with the corresponding period of last year.
Additional Collector Customs Amir Rasheed told Customs Today that superintendents and inspectors of the organization have been instructed strictly to adopt zero tolerance policy against the smuggling activities.
He hoped in the results of measures taken by ASO will show improved performance during the current financial year 2015-16.
