ASO seizes Rs7.6m worth non-duty paid items, offending vehicle

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized energy drinks, cigarettes and other items along with offending vehicle in worth of Rs7.6 million.

Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel told Customs Today that in pursuance of information provided by Collector Dr. Arslan, the ASO team intercepted a Hino truck with registration No: XA-381 Mirpur at GT Road Rawat.

The ASO team recovered cigarettes of various brands from the truck. The recovered cigarettes includes 50 sleeves of Benson and hedges (Special filter), 9 sleeves Dunhill Master Blend, 10 sleeves of Dunhill International, 250 sleeves of Pine, 9 sleeves of Mond super shine, 3000 packets of light blue cigarettes and 50 sleeves of ORIS Gold international.

The ASO team also recovered tyres China origin, floor hinges black, 1000 kilogram Aluminum printed packing material, Lucozade Energy drink 382.40 litters, Locozade 91.20 litters, Barbican malt beverage non-alcohol 6363 litters, Rubicon juices 1108.80 litters, Coca cola 367.20 litters, Sprite 72 litters, Red bull energy drink 288 litters, Bounty juice 28 litters, Robinson fruit shoot 792 litters, Robinson malt 158.40 litters, Gulf basil seed drink 132.24 litters and Heinz beanz baked tomato sauce.

Rana Shakeel told that the possessor could not provide any legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the cigarettes, so the ASO team seized the consignment along with offending vehicle under Section 3(1) of the Import and Export Trade Control Act 1950, Section 16 of the Customs Act 1969 and Section 156 (1) (89), (90) of the Customs Act 1969.

The ASO team confiscated the said items and registered a case against the accused. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
