ASO seizes smuggled betel nuts worth Rs120m from Sundar

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) recovered huge quantity of non-duty paid betel nuts.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Preventive Basit Maqsood Abbasi received credible information about smuggling of betel nuts. He immediately constituted a anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Assistant Collector Salman Javed and Ali Tauqir.

The anti-smuggling squad raided a godown located in Sundar area and recovered huge quantity of non-duty paid betel nuts. Sources told the market value of seized betel nuts is Rs120 million in international market. Customs anti-smuggling squad after registered a case against the owner of the godown and started investigations.

It is necessary to mention here that Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt with iron hands and as per law.
