ASO seizes smuggled cloth worth Rs 1m from Nowshera

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) at Nowshera has foiled an attempt to smuggle 19,000 yards of cloth worth Rs 1 million through a passenger bus.

Officials of the Peshawar Customs said that anti-smuggling staff was on its routine checking when they intercepted a bus coming from Federal Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).

The staff was already informed by a source that a smuggling attempt of cloth will be made through a passenger bus coming through Nowshera. After intercepting the bus, the officials recovered a huge quantity of cloth during checking.

The staff impounded the vehicle and more than 19,000 yards of cloth as the driver failed to show documents regarding the legal import of the cloth. FIR has been lodged against the smuggler for violating the Customs Act, 1969 and further investigation is under process.
