ASO confiscates non-duty paid clothes

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Islamabad foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign origin fabric worth Rs.0.142 million along with an offending vehicle Toyota Corolla car under value of Rs0.60 million during an action.

According to details, Customs squad was on its routine checking at Chungi No 26 when they intercepted a Toyota Corolla bearing registration number SD-371-2010, loaded with foreign origin fabric.

The ASO team asked the driver to produce documents regarding the possession and transportation of the fabric but he failed to provide any relevant documents. After his failure the ASO team seized the fabric worth Rs.0.142 million. The ASO also confiscated the offending car under Customs Act of 1969 Clause 57; the value of seized car was Rs.0.6 million.

The ASO authorities, after registering a case of smuggling against driver, forwarded the case to Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further investigation.

Meanwhile the Model Customs Collectorate Air Freight Units (AFU) has unearthed a mega fraud that involves million of rupees tax evasion of forgery in airway bills through forged import documents, the MCC has registered an FIR against M/s Al Syed Corporation, in this regard.

Talking to Customs Today, Additional Collector AFU Khawaja Khuram Naeem told that this bogus company was involved in duty and tax evasion for a long time, “Initially various goods declarations filed have been intercepted at AFU Islamabad.

He added that scrutiny of record revealed that the said practice was being done for a long time causing heavy loss to the national exchequer.
