ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 1m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized different kinds of foreign origin goods worth Rs 1.041 million recovered from a bus owned by Bilal Bus Service.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that following information received through Islamabad Custom collector office, the ASO team intercepted a bus coming from Lahore to Rawalpindi and recovered non-duty paid goods.

The ASO team recovered items, including 1000 cartons of Dunhill light cigarettes, 144 kilogrammes of embroider thread viscose Rayan, 300 pieces of Hyundai MCB miniature breaker made in Korea from the possession of two passengers.

The officials asked the persons to show documents regarding legal import of the items, but they could not produce the same; therefore, the recovered goods were confiscated under the customs laws, besides arresting the both suspects during the raid. The value of goods has been estimated at Rs 1,041,600.

The deputy collector said that with the guidance of Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen and Customs North Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib, the Customs Preventive department was doing well, as it had made big seizures so far.

He added that customs department was using all available resources to decrease smuggling by adopting comprehensive strategy against smugglers. He said that FIR has been filed against the alleged smugglers and further investigation is underway.

The ASO team comprising Superintendent Zargham Dil, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel, Inspector Asif and other staff participated in the raid and arrested two accused persons along with smuggled items.
