Aston Martin reveals new Lagonda super sedan, DBX crossover will be part of three-model business plan for British marque

SYDNEY: Aston Martin has revealed that when production of the existing Rapide sedan wraps up, the car will be replaced by two separate four-doors; a production variant of the Aston Martin DBX crossover as well as a new sedan dubbed the Lagonda.

The new Lagonda will be completely separate to the Rapide based Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf unveiled late last year and unlike the Taraf, it won’t feature a limited production run and be restricted to select markets around the world.

While speaking with Car and Driver, Aston Martin chief executive Andy Palmer revealed that the new Lagonda super sedan and DBX crossover will be part of a three-model business plan for the British marque.

“We have a further business plan, and within that there are three legs to the strategy. First is replacing the entire sports-car range; second is the DBX, and that appeals to a different set of audiences; and the third is the sports sedan, which will carry that beautiful badge”.

While Palmer failed to divulge additional details about the Lagonda, he did provide some new information about the production-spec DBX crossover.

He confirmed that it will feature “a high seating position, making it more accessible, making it less intimidating particularly for female customers. That won’t change. The design will change. The most obvious change will be that it’ll have five doors [including the hatch], not three doors. There’s probably more work to do on the interior. And we’ve got to keep that beauty. Got to keep that rail going in that arc, but we’ve got to make sure there’s sufficient headroom and seating room.”
