Astronomers have identified a “supervoid” — a vast region of the universe that is less dense than the area surrounding it. Located three billion light years away from us, this void has only a fifth fewer galaxies than would be expected, but because of its size it is 1.8 billion light years across that accounts for 10,000 galaxies.
