ASUs impound items on tip-offs given by collector valued at Rs25.8m in current week

PESHAWAR: The Anti-Smuggling Units on various tip-offs delivered by Collector Customs have seized the contraband goods worth Rs25.8million in the current week of October in FY2017-18.

The sources informed Customs Today on Friday that Collector Customs Gul Rahman told the ASUs of the MCC Peshawar for curbing the smuggling of contraband items and vehicles for which special raids were carried out on private ware houses and NDP goods worth millions of rupees were impounded.

The collector lauded the performance of the Peshawar Customs for such good seizure in the second quarter to support the growth of revenue during current FY.

The Peshawar Customs took into possession 11 vehicles when a raid was conducted on a specific tip-off about the smuggling of the NDP vehicles from Torkham Border into district swat.

In the light of the following direction given to Anti-Smuggling Unit Peshawar, they thwarted an attempt to smuggle Toyota Fielder car-2001, Toyota Vitz-2003, Hino Dumper Trucks of Model 1993 along with others.

The customs also impounded XLI motor car and Toyota Van, model 1887, Suzuki car, model LE-9064 U/S 157) and Suzuki Mehran along with others.

These NDP vehicles were kept in a secret place near the Ring Road Peshawar. The Customs Mobile squad, after taking information and direction, reached the place and took into possession the vehicles. Cases were registered against the two accused who were apprehended on the spot.

Collector Customs Gul Rahman directed the ASU to not tolerate any chance of tracing smugglers of NDP goods in order to add extra amount of revenue to the collection displayed by Customs House Peshawar.

The Collector Customs praised the activities executed by the ASU during the current month which also included seizure of foreign origin cloths, body parts of vehicles along with 36-kg of hashish from a car near Torkham Border.

During the current month, about 10 cases were forwarded to the Customs Courts for which initial investigations have been shared and further investigations will be followed on the orders of the Customs Courts.

Collector Customs Gul Rahman also directed the customs officials to not disturb the importers when they show complete papers for their crossing and instead corporate with them to sustain the policy of tolerance in their duty.
