ATHEX: Healthy gains for local stocks

ATHENS: Bank stocks and Coca-Cola (CCHBC) energized the Greek bourse on Thursday, powering the benchmark to healthy gains for a change.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 572.15 points, adding 1.78 percent to Wednesday’s 562.12 points. The FTSE 25 index expanded 2.22 percent to end at 1,530.67 points.

The banks index improved 4.36 percent, with Piraeus grabbing 6.67 percent. CCHBC rose 2.80 percent. In total 69 stocks advanced, 37 declined and 19 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 45.7 million euros, up from Wednesday’s 36.9 million. The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia climbed 0.12 percent to close at 67.42 points
