ATL shows 1.32 million filers for tax year 2016

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received 1.32 million income tax returns for tax year 2016, according to Active Taxpayers List (ATL) for the week ended November 12, 2017.

The number of return filers is rising gradually since the government created a gap between rates of withholding tax for filers and non-filers.

The government introduced higher withholding tax rates four years back for non-filers the rate gradually increased for increasing cost of transactions for non-compliant taxpayers.

The lower withholding tax rate is only available to those taxpayers whose names are appeared on the ATL.

The latest ATL can be downloaded through this link

A taxpayer can verify ATL status by sending SMS, Type “ATL space 13 digit CNIC” and send to 9966.

The ATL-2016 will be applicable till issuance of new ATL – 2017 in March 2018.
