HAVANA: As the Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C. reopens its doors, one local business is waiting for what happens next.
“I think this is a good first step,” said Rene Diaz, owner of Atlanta-based Diaz Foods.

“I remember the day we were told we could leave,” Diaz said as he recalled the day he and his family left Cuba back in the 1960’s shortly after Cuba and the United States cut ties.
“I just remember my mother saying, ‘Hurry come, come, come,’” he said.
The Diaz family arrived in Atlanta and built a successful exporting and importing business from the ground up.
Now they’re standing by, hoping to be one of the first American businesses to start importing to and exporting from Cuba.
But like many others, they’re still waiting on Congress to lift the decades long U.S. embargo on Cuba.
Diaz is confident; it’s only a matter of time before it happens.
“As long as we live in the past, we’re not going to get anywhere, we have to move forward,” said Diaz.
