KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta foiled a bid to smuggle smartphones and different mobile accessories, including normal chargers, desktop chargers and a large number of batteries, worth Rs9.5 million during a special execution of checking.
On Tuesday, sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta Muhammad Akram Chaudhary received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle smartphones and mobile accessories from Quetta into Karachi.
He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Superintendent Majid Siddique and others. The team enhanced the surveillance on the Highway Road Quetta and started searching of the vehicles. The team intercepted a passenger bus with registration No: JKA-587 going from Quetta to Karachi.
During the checking, the customs team recovered 250 pieces of smartphones, 5,000 imported chargers, 5,000 desk top chargers and 5,000 imported smart phones’ batteries worth Rs9.50 million. The team seized all the items and arrested three smugglers including a driver. Source said that, before two months ago, the Customs Intelligence team had held three smugglers who also belonged to this gang.
The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Quetta registered an FIR against the smugglers and started investigations.
