WELLINGTON: A man trying to import chemicals used to make up to $7 million worth of methamphetamine has been arrested.
Customs officers in Auckland found 14.6kg of the chemical ephedrine, used to manufacture P, inside a consignment from Malaysia.
That amount would produce about 7kg of the drug, with a street value of up to $7m, Customs said.
Investigations manager Maurice O’Brien said the social harm of that much methamphetamine to the community could be as much as $3m.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at a Canterbury address on Thursday and will appear in Christchurch District Court this morning.
