NEW YORK: The Audi Q6 has planned SUV from the German automaker to compete with the BMW X6 and Mercedes sport activity vehicle. Audi Q6 will come with features fastback roof line and bolder bodylines then the rest of Audi’s SUV lineup.
Perhaps possible isn’t quite the right word as Audi honcho, Rupert Sadler, has expressed his interest in building such a model.
We can imagine a model between the Q5 and the Q7. A coupe-like, four-wheel driven model. With sales of the BMW X6 far exceeding expectations around the world, calls are being made from Audi’s North American and Chinese divisions to introduce a competitor into the lucrative coupe-SUV market.
Should the Q6 get the official go-ahead, expect the five-seat crossover to be based on a variation of the Audi Q7‘s platform. As for its aesthetics, design cues from its bigger brother are expected to trickle down as the latest-gen Q7 features a new direction for Audi SUVs.
For power train options, it is likely that the petrol and diesel mills currently in service in the Audi Q5 will be employed here as well. On the gasoline side, we could be looking at a 2.0 litre TFSI mill with 222 hp/350 Nm of torque. As for diesel options, expect a 2.0 litre TDI with 175 hp/380 Nm of torque to feature.
While it’s still a long way to go, the engineers at Audi’s RS division are said to be considering a Q6 RS model, which will most likely be powered by the 4.0 litre, biturbo TFSI V8 engine found in the Audi RS6 Avant. In that state of tune, the mill puts out 560 hp and 700 Nm of torque.
